Meeting Summary (6-26-08)
Attendees: Douglas Mallette, Greg Sandor, Troy Isaac, Scott Jensen, James Willmott, Yuliansun Harjanto
Instead of listing every person and their updates for this week, I'm just going to summarize what we covered in the meeting, mainly because I'm currently at work doing this and don't have all the info. in front of me.
George Muhs's computer died on him as far as the internet goes, so he couldn't make the meeting. First time ever. I'll cut him some slack.
Andy Lefton made a sweet quick and dirty animation involving the MagLev Train on the SSD (that's a much better title than Turbo Lift) and I gave everyone in attendance the clip. Today (mostly this afternoon when I get home) I'm going to work on getting more video clips...trying to embed things...on the website. I will put that and many other clips up. I will also give credit to those people that made the clips, even though they are typically rough draft brainstorming things.
As noted above, James and Sun made the meeting, which is awesome since they are in Australia and Indonesia, respectively. James got to see first hand how serious we're taking this film. Personal note: I am so honored to work with such a group of awesome people. **wiping away a tear** Okay, enough of that! lol.
Greg and I had a great after-meeting meeting. We spent over an hour breaking down the space battle that occurs in the middle of the film. We're not done yet, but we got a lot accomplished last night. We've broken down how the fleets generally break up, who engauges who, which way they fly (ascent, descent, pitch, roll, yaw), where Reylin's Shuttle emerges from hyperspace during the heat of the battle, etc. This will also include drawings with timing stamps such that everyone will know when certain positions are achieved at a certain scene callout. Example: Drawing shows that the fleets are around this position by scene 54. I never had the artists to draw up an official storyboard, but Greg and I are kind of putting one together. This really needed to get done for a few reasons.
1 - This will ensure everyone working on the space battle understands what's going on during the whole fight, including a rough idea of what ships are where at specific scenes in the film. Since different people have told me they wish to grab a shot or two of the space battle and work it, I have to make sure that you know where the ships are in the proper positions depending on what you've selected. This helps facilitate that.
2 - We realized that the Imperial Fleet I made up was 10 ships to many. So, I reduced the size of the fleet and now it doesn't look so overbearing. You have to remember scale. Imperial ships are fraggin huge compared to the New Republic Fleet. The poor NR Fleet looks like it's going to get killed instantly with the old version of the Imperial Fleet bearing down on it. Suspension of disbelief is one thing, but you can go crazy with that. lol. Now with the adjustments, and the way I have envisioned the NR battle strategy, it will be something amazing to behold for the audience and will be a better sell.
That covers the meeting in a nutshell. I have received word from several staff members on updates. More like verbal progress reports that clips or snapshots, but I hope to get a lot of updates by the end of this week.
